Multidisciplinary Artist
Bibi playfully combines recycled materials, scale, and a socially engaged practice to create surprising civic art. She often employs technology, sound, and movement to invite interactivity and engagement with our environment—and each other.
"Civic art ought to represent diverse identities in a city's cultural context." A Dutch-Kiwi, Bibi picks up power tools of the patriarchy to build her work. She often collaborates with engineers, musicians, researchers, performers, and local communities, and invites audiences to become part of her art. Her conceptual, spacial style carries through in paintings as well as sculpture.
Aotearoa x Amsterdam: After studying creative media in Auckland, New Zealand, Bibi spent 15 years as a 'Creative For Hire', often for NGOs, charities, and events. She won a bunch of awards for her conceptual work and writing, and now makes large-scale public and participatory works. Bibi studies Fine Art at Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and works from her studio there.
